We are delighted to be supplying the book packs for the ‘No Privilege, Just Words’ reading campaign, and connecting them with some wonderful authors.
The campaign was created by Alfie Egembah, a teacher of over 10 years, in response to recent global events and the Black Lives Matter movement. Through this campaign, Alfie aims to educate the next generation to equip them with knowledge and information regarding race and racism.
This project is aimed at educating children and young people in secondary schools on matters of race and racism by giving them a chance to access texts that focus on race issues and how to understand them.
Alfie collated a list of books that any school library would be proud to have for all their students. The sample bundle contains over 20 books written by authors from black, Asian, and ethnic minorities and we have successfully donated a bundle of these books to every secondary school in Enfield. Alfie hopes that these books will help empower the next generation to think about race relations in an informed manner with empathy.
*The books are free for Enfield schools but there will be a charge for schools that wish to purchase these books outside of our borough.
Nexus also held a live event for secondary schools and colleges celebrating World Book Day with entertaining host Zeze Millz - TV presenter and influencer, Rt. Hon. Stuart Lawrence, and other guests. This event explored the importance of reading and how it shapes lives to motivate young people to read in a fun, engaging format.
