Pickled News - July
Black Lives Matter
When we opened back in 2012 we were surprised at the lack of diversity in children's books. It really felt like very little had changed since we were children. In the last couple of years there has been a monumental shift in ensuring Black and Minority Ethnic children feature at the fore of children's books, for babies right through to teens. And more recently we have seen an increase in BAME writers and illustrators being published. It's been our absolute pleasure to stock, sell and champion these books.
In the last few weeks we have seen an unprecedented increase in requests from parents and carers on books that support discussions on Black history, racism and anti-racism with children. We now have a selection of titles online and many more in the shop. If you are looking for a specific title please get in touch, we are more than happy to help.
Summer Reads
What could be better than getting lost in a book this summer? To promote reading over the holidays, we are holding a children's book review competition. Simply write a book review for the best book you've read this summer for a chance to win a Pickled Pepper Book Fairy voucher worth £30. Open to kids only! Terms and conditions apply.
Luna Loves Art
Last week, Fiona Lumbers came by and decorated our shop window in celebration of her new book, together with award-winning poet Joseph Coelho, Luna Loves Art.
The shop is now open again daily, so do stop by and have a look at the display!
In the book, Luna and her friend Finn step inside famous works of art by Van Gogh, Henri Rousseau, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and more. Can you spot all the art?
