Book Group Review - A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge

August 18, 2018

A Skinful of Shadows was one of our book group books. I think it was different to what we normally read because we don't choose ghost stories that much. Whe I left I was reading it on the bus home and when I got home I just sat on my bed reading it for ages. I couldn't put it down! The story was about a girl called Makepeace who was brought up by Puritans in the Civil War between King Charles and Parliament. She was sent to live with her ancestors, the ancient Fellmotes who lived in a huge stately home and considered themselves extremely noble. As a servant in the house, Makepeace soon discovered the powerful family had a dark secret. This book was really gripping and had loads of twists. It was also deliciously creepy. I would totally recommend it to anyone who enjoys mystery stories and ghost stories.
